When the Old Becomes New

It's not the history behind this beauty that intrigues me. Nor am I concerned with who may have touched it once and what became of them, him, or her. As I viewed it on the screen this morning after a while of musing and exercise that is the old becoming new and novel. It's not in vogue anymore because someone somewhere decided the rest of us were ready for something else. I'm not advocating some mediocre clinging to the past or rejecting the blessings of human ingenuity and innovation, it's just that what is useful or obsolete is subjective and so relative. We are so quick to judge others by what they have or use ignoring intrinsic value: If it gets me where I need to go, what's wrong with it? Of course, if we were all this practical we would not be the consumer-driven society we are today; we would not be burdened with the stressors of carrying the load of debt and goods didn’t need in the first place.
