Ephemeral Visions

Transcending ephemerality through the lens and imagery.

Coca Cola

Coke is big in Mexico. The producers use huge amounts of water to make it but it's not half as beneficial as the real clear stuff. The addiction to the drink in this neck of the woods is exemplified by its inclusion in all three diurnal meals. So in the end, more black stuff and less real water into an already poor diet of starch, carbohydrates, and fat that has made Mexico a growing leader in obesity rates after nation's like the USA.

The photo is superb, the reality behind ugly.

Its no different in the UK. This is a great shot, I'm intrigued by the child's bike in the background.

I also like the bike in the background… about the “dark drug” – don't drink it too often.

I would drink it back home mostly during picnics or cookouts. I don't fault the folks here for including it in meals like breakfast; it may be the way it's been marketed and placed in peoples minds that has breed this behavior.

Thanks for dropping by, Jonas. Have a good one…

Don't need a plague like the infamous “Black Death” to wipe out humanity, we can a speedy and effective on our own.

Hello Rhys and thanks for paying attention to detail. The shot was taken at a restaurant in the higher –more mountainous– parts of Mexico City in an area called Ajusco. I've been going there with my wife since I met her in 1994 and now take my son to eat at a small restaurant we've also been going to since then. They serve deliciously prepared quesadillas and a particularly rich coffee. The cokes were under a table at which the owner's grandchild was squeezing oranges. If you could see the look on their faces as I crouched over, bent on my knees, to get this shot.

Yes, Denis, a very ugly reality. I recently heard on a BBC program that companies like Coca Cola were wrecking havoc on the water supplies of certain areas in India where folk depend on it for their livelihoods. Many of us fail to pay attention to the resources that go into such products; like water being the most precious of these.
