$1 Peso

Trying to cram some skill and ideas into a wedding I will be shooting in September. Also looking at cost of some gear and how I wish it could all go down for one peso into my camera bag. Anyhow, the best to all of you as the week continues to roll by; can't believe it's only Tuesday --got a long one ahead for me.
The Old Man and His Magazine

Just got back from work a moment ago and it is 01:24 hrs. Got some stuff I shot this weekend but with no time to either look at them or see what I like, I decided to post this image taken back in 2008. The gentleman in this image was sitting contemplating a magazine when I saw him one Sunday in rural Mexico. He is in charge of maintaining the area where we have our weekend home –which I have been unable to get to for about a year now. He was relaxingin his front yard when I asked if I could take some photos of him while he, my mother-in-law, and I chatted away about the area and his past.
Eat Me

From a day of crab fishing in Cazones, Veracruz. The locals go out into the wee hours of the night to catch more mature critters like this one. Sadly, they've been depleting the population to the extent that its become nearly impossible to run into abundant catches. Seeing the fishermen go out into the evening with only the silhouette of them and their nets being cast into the waters with billowy clouds against a full moon is a sight to behold. Hard to fathom seeing that come to an end someday in the near future.
SRE (Secretaria de Relaciones Exteriores), Centro Historico – Mexico City

Another take at this complex from a different angle and in black and white. I'm behind on my photos with all the work and the efforts to close the year at work. My drive has been gathering images recently shot, but no time to look at them. This one was set aside for posting about a month ago; for several reasons I was reluctant to post. I was surprised the SRE had the fountain you see in the image operating; we are suffering the consequences of poor water policies and a major drought which has placed Mexico City on the verge of severe crisis in this regard too. Thought the flu outbreak was enough.
Synchronicity

They can "...granted freedom of intellect because they have no intellect." (from George Orwell's 1984). Does an open society truly lead to the sincere pursuit of truth and transparency? Don't people in the end pervert facts to fit their skewed understanding of reality or world view? The more I see the state of affairs in modern democratic societies, the more convinced I become that the freedom to think does not guarantee truth to reign and flourish. The heart of man is prone to self-deception; in the end, most people believe what they want to believe independent of the facts and truths that could truly break the shackles of ignorance. How else could men like Benito Mussolini, Hitler, and the rising present day haters of equality and egalitarian democratic principles (Even in countries like the United States, and I'm not talking about Obama.) come to power and grow in popularity.
